Our Quest parents' expedition recently paid a visit to our longest-running project to date, the Peru Children & Community Project in the shanty town of Villa Maria.
Our Project Manager Alejandro wasted no time in introducing them to the work carried out there. After a quick introduction to the kids at the Quest School, he soon got them to test out their construction skills by building a new house for one of the families in the communities we work with.
To find out how they got on, check out this video:
This is part of the 'Mi Nueva Casa' initiative we have been running since 2008, in response to the urgent need for improved housing in the area. The homes we build are basic,
single storey wooden constructions, which can be put together in a matter of
days. The great advantage is that they cost relatively little to buy and make. A simple home with electricity, water and sewerage for a family of four costs
around £500. Although basic, these solid constructions provide the warmth and hygiene which
families had previously been missing, transforming lives and providing them
with a new home they can be proud of.
