Quest Volunteers' Final Week in Tanzania

Quest4Change volunteers over in Tanzania are now finishing up their project work with our partner charity the Livingstone Tanzania Trust and getting ready to head off on a six week expedition. What have the team done? What haven’t they done?! Just some of their work has been:

Completing 4 large fish ponds for tilapia, which will provide the schools with a source of food and, more importantly, income when the fish is sold at local markets.

Helping build pig sties for the Women’s Group at Sinai, enabling them to get their pig farm project off the ground. Pork is very popular as a meal for special occasions in Tanzania, and this farm will provide a good income for the community.

Completing a well and water pump at Sumaye Secondary School, which previously had NO access to water on the site at all. Once the pipes are laid in the trenches dug by the volunteers, the kids will have access not only to drinking water, but to taps where they can wash their hands, an absolutely vital but simple step to reduce the spread of the diarrhoeal diseases that cause children to miss school, and that are responsible for 7.7% of deaths across Africa each year.

Giving informal English lessons at Wa’angwaray Primary School, exchanged with KiSwahili.

Getting significantly underway on the fence around the new plot of land purchased by LTT close to Wa'angwaray for a brand new sustainable agriculture educational centre.

Not to mention digging, hoeing and milking at the school farm....
