Excellent Relaunch

Our partner charity in Kenya, Excellent Development, have relaunched with a new strategy and a new name, focusing on “pioneering sand dams in drylands worldwide”.

Now known as ‘Excellent, Pioneers of Sand Dams’, Excellent are not altering their mission to “support farming communities in drylands worldwide to achieve water and food security through soil and water conservation” through sustainable community-led development. What is changing is the way they are setting about achieving their goals.

Excellent are pioneering the use of sand dams in three main ways: expanding their activities by partnering with new organizations in new countries; advocating for the use of sand dam technology by international development organizations; facilitating research into theenvironmental and human impacts of sand dams to demonstrate their potential.

Overall, this strategy aims not only for Excellent themselves to help communities to achieve water security, but for countless other organizations also to work with communities across the world to build sand dams – as, in the words of Executive Director Simon Maddrell.

“We believe that sand dams will transform millions of lives; they are the world’s lowest cost method of capturing rainwater in dry rural areas, home to 80% of the world’s poor.”

Good luck Excellent, may the successes continue.
