New Name
It has been an extremely busy summer for Joshua in Malawi with the clinic grand opening, school exams and an abundance of volunteer and fundraising efforts. I’m sure many of you will have noticed something different about Joshua recently... we've changed our name to Joshua Orphan and Community Care "The reason for the change in name is that it better reflects the work we do in Malawi as we have expanded our project work. Joshua now works with 19 isolated rural communities in and around the Pensulo district, supporting sustainable development projects to assist HIV/AIDS orphans, vulnerable children and their families."
Pensulo Clinic open and ready for business
The Clinic Appeal campaign launched in May raised a staggering £20,857 to enable the completed clinic to be fully equipped. A huge thank you from Joshua to everyone that made this project possible and to those that supported the appeal. Generous donations were received from the Purley Overseas Trust, One World Group, Phoenix School as well as on-going support from the staff at the RBS who have seen this project through from start to finish. Already the clinic is full of patients who can now receive treatments. It also acts as a maternity clinic as well as an education facility.
Volunteers in Action
Quest Overseas summer team of 11 completed a waiting room, wash area and latrine at the clinic while also renovating a house in Manyowe into a much needed feeding centre. Volunteer Nikki Lee kept a blog diary of her time which you can read here. Her fantastic fundraising efforts resulted in a massive £1825 being raised.
