Helping Yomely to hear

Alice Machin is 18 years old and has just returned from five months in South America. Alice spent month volunteering on our Children’s Project in Peru where she worked and lived in Villa Maria, a poverty stricken shantytown in Lima, Peru, which is home to over 750,000 people. Since returning to the UK Alice has decided to help transform the live on one of the children she worked with.
During my time in Villa Maria, entertaining children and building houses for extremely impoverished families, I met Yomely, a charming and attractive 8 year old girl who is deaf and mute. I spent a lot of time with her in class drawing and colouring whilst the other children were doing sums and spelling etc. Only after a couple of weeks I found out from her teacher that if she had hearing aids (costing US $500) she would be able to hear perfectly. Right now she can't hear anything and struggles to pronounce any words and communicates through basic noises. Her family is incredibly poor and can't afford hearing aids. I would love Yomely to have the chance to hear and speak as her classmates do in Villa Maria, and it would be wonderful for her to learn to read and write and interact with her playmates and family. "

Please go to my fundraising page and sponsor me online. 100% of the money you donate will go towards helping Yomely, any extra money that is raised will fund more houses in Villa Maria for the poorest families.

Thank you for helping Yomely to hear.
