News from our project partners in Bolivia - Comunidad Inti Wara Yassi

Artist in Residence programme

Our project partners in Bolivia may be best known for running three refuges for wild animals that have fallen victim to trafficking and abuse, but they also dedicate a lot of time and energy to environmental education and awareness raising.

One of their newest programmes is the Artist in Residence programme. Launched in 2012, the first artist to pilot the scheme was Bethan McFadden. Bethan spent the month of November at Parque Machia and produced a number of incredible sketches and sculptures, some of which were auctioned off to raise funds.

CIWY's second artist in residence, Jennifer Hooper, is currently half way through her two month residency at Parque Ambue Ari. Jennifer was an Inti Wara Yassi volunteer 10 years ago and has been interested in CIWY's work ever since. She has a background in art focusing on conservation.

During her stay Jennifer will produce work for two exhibitions: one in Bolivia (Santa Cruz) and one here in the UK (Brighton). Through these twin exhibition she aims to raise CIWY's profile and the issues of deforestation and the live animal trade.
