88 miles = books for Tanzania

A big THANK YOU to Sam Gregson and Nathan Boublil who cycled from Oxford to Cambridge for Quest4Change's Tanzania Project - reaching an amazing total of £500!!

They took part in the British Heart Foundation ride not only to raise funds for us, but also a charity supporting orphans in Manila. That is....

2 fantastic people, 2 bikes, 88 miles, and 3 fantastic causes.

The money Sam and Nathan have raised is truly incredible, and goes a long way in Tanzania - it will be used to provide books for Managhat Primary School. Research shows that the more widely children read, the more their general literacy levels, educational success, and overall life chances are improved!

Additionally, when our last team of volunteers were out in Managhat and asked pupils about their wishes for the school, books for the library were one of the pupils' top priorities, so we're thrilled that Sam and Nathan have helped us to achieve this for them.

Managhat Primary has around 300 pupils and is extremely run-down. But things are definitely getting better! Much of this is due to LTT and Quest's investment, recently into feeding and sanitation programmes, including fuel-efficient stoves and a new hygienic staff toilet block. This also helped Mangahat's dedicated teachers to feel as valued as they are.

Sam himself first fell in love with Tanzania when he volunteered with Quest back in 2003, when we were working with the charity Village Education Project Kilimanjaro. More recently, we've been working with the amazing Livingstone Tanzania Trust, on their interconnected programme addressing rural poverty through education, agriculture, community, health, and environment.
