Volunteers celebrate CIWY Anniversary

Congratulations to our hardy bunch of Bolivia Wildlife Project volunteers, who spent 6 weeks working hard in the jungle sanctuaries of Inti Wara Yassi, in what is now their 20th year, celebrated with a traditional Bolivian PiƱata - congratulations CIWY!

The colunteers spent the first four weeks working hard on construction in Jacj Cuisi, the newest sanctuary, after a 42-hour journey to reach the park... After a short rest, however, the group soon got stuck into work, experiencing the "pleasure of hauling sand and rocks up to Simba's cage and the future monkey enclosure", in their own words.  Simba is a puma, for whom the completed a management cage, a place to put Simba whilst his home (a large enclosure) is being cleaned, or if he requires veterinary attention.

And in case that wasn't enough to keep them busy, the team also found time to re-paint the Jacj Cuisi animal clinic, cleared an area for a small football pitch and future volunteer accommodation and planted some banana trees; all vital aspects to supporting the steady stream of volunteers who keep Inti Wara Yassi running successfully.

From Jacq Cuisi, the team made the trek to Parque Ambue Ari, where they would spend the following fortnight helping look after the animals they'd all been assigned: ocelots, jaguars, pumas, howler monkeys and a parrot!   Volunteers have the privilege and the responsibility of caring for these rescued wildlife in the parks, a part of the project that few forget in a hurry.

Congratulations to CIWY and to the volunteers - thank you for all your hard work!
