An update on the boys at Casa Lar…
As many of you may be aware we here at Quest4Change have been working hard over the last 18 months to increase the support we give to the Casa Lar home for disabled boys in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Earlier this year Quest4Change’s Brazil coordinator Danny Martinez travelled out to the project in Rio. During his trip he and the staff drew up numerous plans addressing the current needs of the home, funding allocation, future projects, and coordination of the home.
Casa Lar de Mangueira is a home for 18 disabled children that have little or no contact with their families. The young people that live in the project display a range of disabilities, both emotional and physical and would be very vulnerable in the community, especially in a city like Rio. The project delivers 24 hour care for the young people and allows them access to education, support and leisure activities and enables them to become valued members of the Mangueira community.
Quest4Change is pleased to report that boys’ situations are continuing to improve and due to the generous support from our donors and trusts in the UK numerous improvements have been made to the home and to the lives of the residents. Your support is helping us ensure that all the boys attend some form of school according to their needs or their circumstances. Essential equipment and food has been supplied to the home, clothing bought and educational outings planned for the boys.
Further good news is that we have managed to secure some funding from the government, however it is significantly less than the home received in 2007/8, so it is essential that we here in the UK continue to have an active involvement so that we can maintain levels of care at an appropriate level.
If you would like to know more about this project and the boys who live at Casa Lar or would like to know how you can help then please visit Quest4Change or email heather@questoverseas.com
To all our supporters, Thank you.
