Belfast Marathon teams

Not to be out done by the Brighton marathon team, two teams are going to take on the challenge of the Belfast City Marathon on the 3rd of May to raise vital funds for Quest4Change's Children's project in Villa Maria, Peru. The “We Relay wish the Marathon was just a choccie bar" team are a group from Northern Ireland's Tourist Board, including Judith Mcgivern, Aisling Mcmullan, Glenn Monahan, Barry Gribbon, Oliver Mckeown .

They have all been training hard:
  • Aisling and Oliver go to the gym together a couple of times a week and also separately so they don’t start competing with each other lol!!!
  • Barry often heads out at lunch time and gets a run in during the day so he can recover in the evening
  • Glenn continues to train through his football and through his sporadic runs to catch the lift in work lol!!!!
  • And I (Judith) tend to train the lazy way…on my treadmill in front of the TV !!!

Find out more about them and their motivation for taking on the challenge here

They will be joined this bank holiday Monday by the four members of team “The whole 26.2 miles” Frankey McGivern, Chris Drysdale, Michael Harland and John Trainor to find out more about them click here.

Quest4Change have been working in Villa Maria for over 13 years now, supporting the poorest children living in one of the world’s largest shanty towns. Home to about 750,000 people living in unimaginably appalling conditions, home for most families is a shack with no running water, sanitation or electricity. With adults working long hour’s and unable to afford to send their children to school, they are often left alone to wander the streets.
Quest has established a pre- and primary school, offering subsidised or free education to children who otherwise would not be able to receive even a basic education. The Quest school is growing fast and the classrooms in the building are no longer big enough to accommodate the ever increasing numbers they are accepting. The property next door has become available though and the team in Peru are keen to be able to snap it up as soon as possible, so they can double the size of the school and keep doing the wonderful work they have been for over 13 year now.

Running a marathon is an amazing achievement and 100% of the money the two teams raise will go directly to this project, every pound donated will make a difference.

We wish both teams best of luck for Mondays Belfast marathon.
